About Dr. Mehserle
William L Mehserle, M.D., a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, is a graduate of the Emory University School of Medicine as well as a graduate of the Emory University residency program. Prior to joining the Center for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, he was engaged in academic medicine training physicians to be orthopaedic surgeons at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Dr. Mehserle’s practice has been centered on minimally invasive procedures for orthopaedic issues. His work includes pioneering techniques for reducing incision size and minimizing tissue trauma related to knee replacement surgery, hip replacement surgery and shoulder replacement surgery caused by other surgeons’ standard large surgical approaches. As a result of these efforts, he has recognized a dramatic decrease in the time it takes for his patients to return to normal activities after orthopaedic surgery. He has developed instrumentation and techniques used throughout the orthopaedic industry.
Dr. Mehserle views himself as an orthopaedic physician, not just an orthopaedic surgeon, emphasizing non surgical management of many orthopaedic issues. He understands that orthopedic problems affect not only a patient’s physical abilities but also their emotional, spiritual and social well-being.
Dr. Mehserle has been selected as an America’s Top Doctor in Orthopaedics every year since 2009 by Castle Connolly as published in Sarasota Magazine. This honor is first peer driven for his dedication and care followed by an extensive independent evaluation of his professional records and credentials by an expert team.
He has also been recognized by his peers as a SRQ Magazine Top Doctor for years. This honor highlights his outstanding commitment to patient care and professional excellence in the greater Sarasota area.
Over the years, Dr. Mehserle has committed his time and resources to Venice High Athletics along with many community endeavors. He is devoted to his faith, his family, and to his patients.
Dr. Mehserle believes that successful orthopaedic outcomes are a team effort, with the patient as a major participant of the team. He emphasizes patient education and answers questions in a manner that non medically oriented people can understand. He considers it an honor and a privilege when a person entrusts him with their orthopaedic care. He welcomes you to the Center for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine to begin your return to fitness and health.
